Тюнинг Skoda Rapid: как улучшить звук выхлопа

Sound tuning is a thing, and even on a relatively budget car like Skoda Rapid, you can make your exhaust sound more interesting. I’m talking about subtle changes, not about turning your car into a race car. My goal was to get a deeper, more pleasant sound without excessive noise and without breaking the bank. Here’s what I did.

What I did:

1. Replaced the rear muffler (chamber muffler)

This is the most common and effective way to change the exhaust sound. I opted for a sports muffler from a lesser-known brand (cost around 15,000 rubles). It has a different internal design, more of a straight-through flow with minimal baffling. The sound immediately became deeper, with a pleasant, subtle rumble at idle. During acceleration, it sounds more aggressive, but not annoyingly loud. No raspy, buzzing sound, just a solid, rich tone.

2. Removed the resonator (optional, but recommended)

The resonator’s job is to cancel out certain sound frequencies, often the unpleasant ones. Removing it can make the exhaust note a bit louder and more pronounced. In my case, removing the resonator added a bit more character to the sound at medium revs, a nice subtle growl. However, if you don't want any drone, you might want to skip this step or install a smaller, more performance-oriented resonator. The cost for removal and welding was about 3,000 rubles.

3. Tailpipe tip (purely cosmetic)

I also added a stylish stainless steel tailpipe tip. It doesn’t affect the sound, but it definitely enhances the visual appeal of the rear of the car. Plenty of options are available, I chose one with a polished finish and a slight angle cut. Cost around 2,000 rubles.))

What not to do (in my opinion):

• Cat-back exhaust system: While it offers more significant gains and sound changes, it’s usually much more expensive (starting from 40-50k rubles) and can be overly loud for daily driving.))
• Decat pipe: Removing the catalytic converter is illegal in many places and will definitely cause engine check lights and increase emissions. Plus, the sound can become very unpleasant and raspy.
• Muffler delete (straight pipe): This will make your car extremely loud, likely unbearable for daily use, and might attract unwanted attention from traffic police.))

The result:

My Skoda Rapid now has a much more pleasant exhaust note. It’s deeper, more resonant, and has character without being obtrusive. It’s a subtle but noticeable enhancement that makes driving more enjoyable. For anyone looking to slightly alter the sound of their Skoda without going overboard, replacing the rear muffler is the way to go.
